The mangrove canals were dug
many years ago to link harbors and bays in the Oak Ridge area,
enabling small boats to commute among them without the
need to go into the sea outside the reef. Who built the
canal is lost to history.
This ride shows a
rare glance into a unique ecosystem, as well as interesting
parts of Roatan accessible only by boat.
Dories travel inside
the reef in calm Caribbean waters, to where they enter the mangrove canal. The
full transit lasts a little over an hour, but you can arrange
the ride to suit your time constraints and sightseeing preferences.
